What’s Up with Thoughts On Comics And Creators?
And what happened to Monkeys Fighting Robots?!
Afternoon.
A funny thing happened: after 20 years of writing about comics and the entertainment industry, I found myself without a home.
Last November, I sold Indie Comics Creator Con (IC3) to ComicArtFans.com (CAF) and joined their team as Director of Digital Communications and Showrunner for the New Haven IC3 show. Around the same time, I handed over Monkeys Fighting Robots to Editor-in-Chief—and longtime friend—Anthony Composto, who continues to run the site, keeping it alive and thriving.
And here’s the cool part: Anthony gave me the Monkeys Fighting Robots Substack as a creative outlet—so here we go, because…
Now, I’m creating content for CAF, including the monthly EYE SEA THREE podcast. Plus, cartoonist Jamie Jones and I would love to keep interviewing indie creators with our WHAT IS COMICS? podcast.
Also, as a member of CAF and the showrunner of an indie comics convention, that means I need to read comics—so yes, my quest to write the perfect comic book review continues.
CAF hosts four conventions annually: the Original Art Expo (OAX), Comic Art Live (CAL) twice a year, and IC3 New Haven. On top of that, I’ll most likely attend Heroes Con, New York Comic Con, MICE, Eddie P Con, and Terrificon. I’d also love to return to C2E2 and San Diego Comic-Con, and finally check out shows like SPX, CXC, and TCAF.
And that’s just the comics side of things. I haven’t even mentioned The Bear, the band I just discovered (Japandroids!), the new Edgar Wright trailer that just dropped today, or the small indie film coming out next week that starts with an “S” and ends with “Man.”
So that’s what Thoughts On Comics And Creators is about: sharing my projects and talking about the stuff that inspires me.
What inspires you?
Hey Matt, since you come in for Eddie P have you thought about doing 3 Rivers Con it is always the first weekend in June.
