MFR: The Magazine #3 is happening, and it's all about CARTOONISTS!
We're talking about Jack Kirby, Uncle Scrooge, Savage Dragon, and more!
Hey there, comics people! Editor-in-Chief Anthony here, and I KNOW it’s been a while. Sorry about that. Getting this newsletter back up and running has been one of my top priorities this year, but it’s just…well, it’s been a year. Maybe I’ll get more into that in a future newsletter, but for now, I just wanted to pop into your inbox real quick and let you know that MONKEYS FIGHTING ROBOTS: THE MAGAZINE #3 is live on Kickstarter!
This Summer 2021 Edition is dedicated to CARTOONISTS, so we’re going to have articles on Jack Kirby, Savage Dragon, political cartoons, manga, and more good things. I myself am working on a piece about the economic implications of old Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck comics, and I swear that it’s going to be more fun and accessible than it sounds! Plus we have a great lineup of actual comics from some awesome up-and-coming creators. We’re really working to make this the biggest and best issue of the magazine yet, so please check out the project and share it with your friends.
We launched the campaign this past Saturday and we met our funding goal in the first day, which is HUGE, so thank you to those of you who have already backed us. That means this magazine is happening. Now comes the really fun part: stretch goals. Our initial funding goal was for a 28-page magazine, but each stretch goal will allow us to make the book longer with more epic content. We really want to see this thing hit 48-pages, so please continue to share the link with your comics-loving friends and family.
We’re going to be talking a lot more about this over the next month, so keep an eye on our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for updates and livestreams. Thanks again for your continued support :)
Before closing this out, I just wanted to shine a spotlight on another Kickstarter that’s trying to meet its goal: OFF INTO THE SUNSET, an anthology of comics inspired by Westerns with some incredible creators attached.
I wasn’t a big fan of Westerns growing up. My dad’s a MASSIVE fan and they always seemed to be on TV when I was growing up, so I kind of got sick of them before giving them an honest chance. But it’s a genre that I’ve recently grown to appreciate and enjoy as an adult, and I really want to read this collection. There are 11 days left in their campaign, and they’re more than halfway to their goal, so check them out!
