Last week I mentioned to you all that we are putting together a magazine and I gave you a tease of the cover by Geoffrey Krawczyk. Well this week I can announce that the Kickstarter for the magazine is LIVE, and I can reveal the FULL COVER:
I told you it was going to melt your brain.
So yea, we’re very excited about this, so please consider backing the project if you can, and share it with your comics-loving friends and family. Matt described the mag as “if Rolling Stone and Mad Magazine got legendarily drunk,” and this is maybe my favorite description of what few projects I’ve worked on.
Here’s the Kickstarter: Monkeys Fighting Robots: The Magazine — we appreciate any support you throw our way, even if it’s just sharing the campaign with your friends.
You can also secure your copy by becoming a patron on Patreon (and then you’ll become a registered voter in our BEST OF THE YEAR awards, plus more cool stuff).
We got some of our favorite creators lined up for the magazine, including:
Jamie Jones contributing an epic Baboon adventure.
Nick Cagnetti dropping a Pink Lemonade original short on us.
Erik Klaus working on punk rock ninja/samurai monkeys fighting robots story!
Aaron Haaland of A Comic Shop giving his Comic Book Industry State Of The Union address.
Jeff Manley bringing Teenage Bigfoot to the main stage.
…and mooooore!
I’ll have more to say about this in coming weeks, so let’s get on to what the MFR team has been working on this week…
Review: SUICIDE SQUAD #5 Bounces Back with a Vengeance!
Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo’s SUICIDE SQUAD is back! Reviewer Zac Owens has given every single issue of this run a perfect 5/5 score, and normally I as an editor would be like, “C’mon man, be more critical.” But lucky for Zac, I’m also reading this series and I would berate him if he DIDN’T give every issue a perfect score. If you’re not reading SUICIDE SQUAD, you’re missing out on one of the best books out right now.
Review: THAT TEXAS BLOOD #1 Crushes You With Dread
This has been one of my most anticipated new series since it was first announced. If you couldn’t tell from last week’s newsletter, I’m a sucker for Western/noir mashups. THAT TEXAS BLOOD #1 by Chris Condon and Jacob Phillips is out June 24th, but you can read our spoiler-free review now to get yourself hyped.
The History of Shazam: From Fawcett Comics to the Big Screen
David Weber takes a look at The World’s Mightiest Mortal, from his Fawcett Comics days, to DC, to his blockbuster starring Zachary Levi.
Review: BLEED THEM DRY #1 – Diving Into A Whole New World
Vault Comics is my personal favorite publisher at the moment. They’re constantly experimenting and trying new, interesting things. They trust in their creators, and it pays off big time. As soon as I heard the words “A Ninja Vampire Tale”, I knew BLEED THEM DRY was going to be a worthy addition to the Vault Pantheon.
Review: THE BUTCHER OF PARIS #5: At Long Last, Justice
After a brief hiatus due to…2020… THE BUTCHER OF PARIS finally concludes! By Stephanie Phillips, Dean Kotz, Jason Wordie, and Troy Peteri, this story is based on the real life World War II serial killer, and it’s not to be missed. Now’s the perfect time to snag all five issues and binge read.
TALES OF MFR • COMIC STRIP
Chapter 59 of TALES OF MFR came out this week! Next week is the big 6-0… catch up from the beginning here: TALES OF MFR
The war between monkeys and robots has raged on for eons; these are the stories that have survived. With art by Jamie Jones and the occasional words by Matt Sardo, Tales of MFR hits the web every Sunday.
For more reviews, interviews, and “Legends of the Longbox”, head over to the website to see what the team’s been working on this week:
That’s all for now, but remember: support your Local Comic Book Shop!
Until next week,
